Resolved Question: Southern California - Santa Ana Winds question?

I'm a surfer, and I live in Anaheim in southern california, and it blows santa ana winds sometimes, and it usually blows super hard where I live, but how come the winds never make it to the beach and usually blow onshore, even during a santa ana wind event?
